اقْرَأْ بِاسْمِ رَبِّكَ الَّذِي خَلَقَ١
Read! In the name of your Lord who created
Surah 96 · 19 Ayahs
Al-'Alaq
بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَٰنِ الرَّحِيمِ
In the name of God, the Lord of Mercy, the Giver of Mercy
- خَلَقَ الْإِنْسَانَ مِنْ عَلَقٍ٢
He created manfrom a clinging form
- اقْرَأْ وَرَبُّكَ الْأَكْرَمُ٣
Read! Your Lord is the Most Bountiful One
- الَّذِي عَلَّمَ بِالْقَلَمِ٤
who taught by [means of] the pen
- عَلَّمَ الْإِنْسَانَ مَا لَمْ يَعْلَمْ٥
who taught man what he did not know
- كَلَّا إِنَّ الْإِنْسَانَ لَيَطْغَىٰ٦
But man exceeds all bounds
- أَنْ رَآهُ اسْتَغْنَىٰ٧
when he thinks he is self-sufficient
- إِنَّ إِلَىٰ رَبِّكَ الرُّجْعَىٰ٨
[Prophet], all will return to your Lord
- أَرَأَيْتَ الَّذِي يَنْهَىٰ٩
Have you seen the man who forbids
- عَبْدًا إِذَا صَلَّىٰ١٠
[Our] servant to pray
- أَرَأَيْتَ إِنْ كَانَ عَلَى الْهُدَىٰ١١
Have you seen whether he is rightly guided
- أَوْ أَمَرَ بِالتَّقْوَىٰ١٢
or encourages true piety
- أَرَأَيْتَ إِنْ كَذَّبَ وَتَوَلَّىٰ١٣
Have you seen whether he denies the truth and turns away from it
- أَلَمْ يَعْلَمْ بِأَنَّ اللَّهَ يَرَىٰ١٤
Does he not realize that God sees all
- كَلَّا لَئِنْ لَمْ يَنْتَهِ لَنَسْفَعًا بِالنَّاصِيَةِ١٥
No! If he does not stop, We shall drag him by his forehead––
- نَاصِيَةٍ كَاذِبَةٍ خَاطِئَةٍ١٦
his lying, sinful forehead
- فَلْيَدْعُ نَادِيَهُ١٧
Let him summon his comrades
- سَنَدْعُ الزَّبَانِيَةَ١٨
We shall summon the guards of Hell
- كَلَّا لَا تُطِعْهُ وَاسْجُدْ وَاقْتَرِبْ ۩١٩
No! Do not obey him [Prophet]: bow down in worship and draw close
