لَا أُقْسِمُ بِيَوْمِ الْقِيَامَةِ١
By the Day of Resurrection
Surah 75 · 40 Ayahs
Al-Qiyamah
بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَٰنِ الرَّحِيمِ
In the name of God, the Lord of Mercy, the Giver of Mercy
- وَلَا أُقْسِمُ بِالنَّفْسِ اللَّوَّامَةِ٢
and by the self-reproaching soul
- أَيَحْسَبُ الْإِنْسَانُ أَلَّنْ نَجْمَعَ عِظَامَهُ٣
Does man think We shall not put his bones back together
- بَلَىٰ قَادِرِينَ عَلَىٰ أَنْ نُسَوِّيَ بَنَانَهُ٤
In fact, We can reshape his very fingertips
- بَلْ يُرِيدُ الْإِنْسَانُ لِيَفْجُرَ أَمَامَهُ٥
Yet man wants to deny what is ahead of him
- يَسْأَلُ أَيَّانَ يَوْمُ الْقِيَامَةِ٦
he says, ‘So, when will this Day of Resurrection be?’
- فَإِذَا بَرِقَ الْبَصَرُ٧
When eyes are dazzled
- وَخَسَفَ الْقَمَرُ٨
and the moon eclipsed
- وَجُمِعَ الشَّمْسُ وَالْقَمَرُ٩
when the sun and the moon are brought together
- يَقُولُ الْإِنْسَانُ يَوْمَئِذٍ أَيْنَ الْمَفَرُّ١٠
on that Day man will say, ‘Where can I escape?’
- كَلَّا لَا وَزَرَ١١
Truly, there is no refuge
- إِلَىٰ رَبِّكَ يَوْمَئِذٍ الْمُسْتَقَرُّ١٢
they will all return to your Lord on that Day
- يُنَبَّأُ الْإِنْسَانُ يَوْمَئِذٍ بِمَا قَدَّمَ وَأَخَّرَ١٣
On that Day, man will be told what he put first and what he put last
- بَلِ الْإِنْسَانُ عَلَىٰ نَفْسِهِ بَصِيرَةٌ١٤
Truly, man is a clear witness against himself
- وَلَوْ أَلْقَىٰ مَعَاذِيرَهُ١٥
despite all the excuses he may put forward
- لَا تُحَرِّكْ بِهِ لِسَانَكَ لِتَعْجَلَ بِهِ١٦
[Prophet], do not rush your tongue in an attempt to hasten [your memorization of] the Revelation
- إِنَّ عَلَيْنَا جَمْعَهُ وَقُرْآنَهُ١٧
We shall make sure of its safe collection and recitation
- فَإِذَا قَرَأْنَاهُ فَاتَّبِعْ قُرْآنَهُ١٨
When We have recited it, repeat the recitation
- ثُمَّ إِنَّ عَلَيْنَا بَيَانَهُ١٩
and We shall make it clear
- كَلَّا بَلْ تُحِبُّونَ الْعَاجِلَةَ٢٠
Truly you [people] love this fleeting world
- وَتَذَرُونَ الْآخِرَةَ٢١
and neglect the life to come
- وُجُوهٌ يَوْمَئِذٍ نَاضِرَةٌ٢٢
On that Day there will be radiant faces
- إِلَىٰ رَبِّهَا نَاظِرَةٌ٢٣
looking towards their Lord
- وَوُجُوهٌ يَوْمَئِذٍ بَاسِرَةٌ٢٤
and on that Day there will be the sad and despairing faces
- تَظُنُّ أَنْ يُفْعَلَ بِهَا فَاقِرَةٌ٢٥
of those who realize that a great calamity is about to befall them
- كَلَّا إِذَا بَلَغَتِ التَّرَاقِيَ٢٦
Truly, when the soul reaches the collarbone
- وَقِيلَ مَنْ ۜ رَاقٍ٢٧
when it is said, ‘Could any charm-healer save him now?’
- وَظَنَّ أَنَّهُ الْفِرَاقُ٢٨
when he knows it is the final parting
- وَالْتَفَّتِ السَّاقُ بِالسَّاقِ٢٩
when his legs are brought together
- إِلَىٰ رَبِّكَ يَوْمَئِذٍ الْمَسَاقُ٣٠
on that day he will be driven towards your Lord
- فَلَا صَدَّقَ وَلَا صَلَّىٰ٣١
He neither believed nor prayed
- وَلَٰكِنْ كَذَّبَ وَتَوَلَّىٰ٣٢
but denied the truth and turned away
- ثُمَّ ذَهَبَ إِلَىٰ أَهْلِهِ يَتَمَطَّىٰ٣٣
walking back to his people with a conceited swagger
- أَوْلَىٰ لَكَ فَأَوْلَىٰ٣٤
Closer and closer it comes to you
- ثُمَّ أَوْلَىٰ لَكَ فَأَوْلَىٰ٣٥
Closer and closer still
- أَيَحْسَبُ الْإِنْسَانُ أَنْ يُتْرَكَ سُدًى٣٦
Does man think he will be left alone
- أَلَمْ يَكُ نُطْفَةً مِنْ مَنِيٍّ يُمْنَىٰ٣٧
Was he not just a drop of spilt-out sperm
- ثُمَّ كَانَ عَلَقَةً فَخَلَقَ فَسَوَّىٰ٣٨
which became a clinging form, which God shaped in due proportion
- فَجَعَلَ مِنْهُ الزَّوْجَيْنِ الذَّكَرَ وَالْأُنْثَىٰ٣٩
fashioning from it the two sexes, male and female
- أَلَيْسَ ذَٰلِكَ بِقَادِرٍ عَلَىٰ أَنْ يُحْيِيَ الْمَوْتَىٰ٤٠
Does He who can do this not have the power to bring the dead back to life
