وَاللَّيْلِ إِذَا يَغْشَىٰ١
By the enshrouding night
Surah 92 · 21 Ayahs
Al-Layl
بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَٰنِ الرَّحِيمِ
In the name of God, the Lord of Mercy, the Giver of Mercy
- وَالنَّهَارِ إِذَا تَجَلَّىٰ٢
by the radiant day
- وَمَا خَلَقَ الذَّكَرَ وَالْأُنْثَىٰ٣
by His creation of male and female
- إِنَّ سَعْيَكُمْ لَشَتَّىٰ٤
The ways you take differ greatly
- فَأَمَّا مَنْ أَعْطَىٰ وَاتَّقَىٰ٥
There is the one who gives, who is mindful of God
- وَصَدَّقَ بِالْحُسْنَىٰ٦
who testifies to goodness––
- فَسَنُيَسِّرُهُ لِلْيُسْرَىٰ٧
We shall smooth his way towards ease
- وَأَمَّا مَنْ بَخِلَ وَاسْتَغْنَىٰ٨
There is the one who is miserly, who is self-satisfied
- وَكَذَّبَ بِالْحُسْنَىٰ٩
who denies goodness––
- فَسَنُيَسِّرُهُ لِلْعُسْرَىٰ١٠
We shall smooth his way towards hardship
- وَمَا يُغْنِي عَنْهُ مَالُهُ إِذَا تَرَدَّىٰ١١
and his wealth will not help him as he falls
- إِنَّ عَلَيْنَا لَلْهُدَىٰ١٢
Our part is to provide guidance––
- وَإِنَّ لَنَا لَلْآخِرَةَ وَالْأُولَىٰ١٣
this world and the next belong to Us––
- فَأَنْذَرْتُكُمْ نَارًا تَلَظَّىٰ١٤
so I warn you about the raging Fire
- لَا يَصْلَاهَا إِلَّا الْأَشْقَى١٥
in which none but the most wicked one will burn
- الَّذِي كَذَّبَ وَتَوَلَّىٰ١٦
who denied [the truth], and turned away
- وَسَيُجَنَّبُهَا الْأَتْقَى١٧
The most pious one will be spared this––
- الَّذِي يُؤْتِي مَالَهُ يَتَزَكَّىٰ١٨
who gives his wealth away as self-purification
- وَمَا لِأَحَدٍ عِنْدَهُ مِنْ نِعْمَةٍ تُجْزَىٰ١٩
not to return a favour to anyone
- إِلَّا ابْتِغَاءَ وَجْهِ رَبِّهِ الْأَعْلَىٰ٢٠
but for the sake of his Lord the Most High––
- وَلَسَوْفَ يَرْضَىٰ٢١
and he will be well pleased
